The Ouroboros Contract (Manifesto)¶
The Ouroboros Contract is the philosophical foundation of Ouro Loop. It defines the paradigm of Precision Autonomy through Absolute Constraint — the idea that granting an AI agent absolute autonomy requires first binding it with absolute constraints. This is not a technical specification; it is the "why" behind the framework.

The Era of Vibe Coding¶
We are in the era of "Vibe Coding." We no longer command syntax; we summon agents, describe desires, and watch the code write itself. It's exhilarating. It feels like magic.
But wild magic is dangerous.
When you tell an unbounded AI agent to "build a payments feature," it doesn't know that the calculate_tax() function is an ancient, load-bearing pillar that must never be touched. It doesn't know that mutating the core_router.js will break the mobile app. Left to its own devices, an unbounded agent will hallucinate, regress established architecture, and happily commit the digital equivalent of burning down the village to cook a meal.
The Failure of Passive Observability¶
Our first instinct was to build "guardrails." We created monitoring tools. We added linting thresholds. We made the AI stop and ask for permission: "Human, I found an error on line 42. What should I do?"
This is passive observability. It turns the developer from a creator into a babysitter. You are constantly interrupted by notifications, approving trivial pull requests, and debugging the agent's context collapse. You aren't vibe coding anymore; you are micro-managing a junior developer who never sleeps.
Precision Autonomy: The Event Horizon¶
Ouro Loop proposes a radical shift: Precision Autonomy through Absolute Constraint.
Before you let the agent write a single line of code, you establish an Event Horizon (Stage 0: BOUND). You write down the IRON LAWS (invariants that must always be true) and the DANGER ZONES (files that trigger catastrophic failure if mishandled).
By explicitly defining the inescapable gravitational boundary of what the agent cannot do, you paradoxically grant it absolute freedom to orbit and execute everything else.

Once the agent is bound by these laws, it is free.
The Serpent: Autonomous Remediation (The Bite)¶
With the circle drawn, the agent begins the Loop. It maps, plans, and builds. But more importantly, it verifies.
In Ouro Loop, when an agent runs its tests and a verification check fails, it does not alert the human. It does not stop formatting. Instead, the serpent bites its own tail.
It triggers Autonomous Remediation. It reads its own error logs, consults its playbook, and makes a decision. It might revert the commit. It might rewrite the function. It might switch to a completely different architectural approach.
As long as the agent remains inside the BOUND — as long as it hasn't touched a DANGER ZONE or violated an IRON LAW — it is allowed to fail, consume that failure, and try again, infinitely.
It consumes its own errors so the creator may rest.
The Goal of Ouro Loop¶
Ouro Loop is not a complex piece of software. It is a philosophy, a methodology, and a lightweight framework.py state machine. It exists to teach AI agents how to govern themselves.
Stop babysitting your agents. Draw the circle. State the laws. Release the Loop.
